Country Director, Nigeria, Axios Foundation
Zachary Gwa is the Nigeria Country Director at Axios Foundation, where he manages a range of supply chain management and health systems strengthening projects in the country.
A trained pharmacist, Zachary possesses over 20 years of experience in the Nigerian pharmaceutical and medical industries. Prior to assuming the role of Country Director, Zachary served Axios for three years as Project Director for several largescale USAID, US-CDC, DFID and UNFPA-funded supply chain management projects. In this role, he provided technical leadership to national, state and local governments in Nigeria to strengthen supply chain and logistics systems for a variety of health commodities.
Before joining Axios, Zachary served as Chief Executive Officer for Essential Pharma Ltd, a DFID-supported public-private partnership specializing in supply chain management for health commodities in Makurdi, Benue State, Nigeria, where he worked closely with government agencies, private healthcare providers and international agencies to secure funding, foster strategic partnerships and procure commodities efficiently and in accordance with international best practices.
Zachary also worked as Head of Supply Chain Management for CHAN Medi-Pharm Ltd/Gte, a manufacturer and supplier of essential medicines and medical commodities in Jos, Nigeria, where he managed procurement and supply chain management activities for HIV/AIDS, Malaria and Tuberculosis commodities on behalf of a variety of donor organizations, including Catholic Relief Services, The Clinton Foundation and FHI360. In addition to these roles, Zachary has worked for a range of international and multinational pharmaceutical manufacturers, including GlaxoSmithKline Pharma (WA) Ltd, Cipla Evans (Nig.) Ltd and GlaxoWellcome Nigeria Ltd.
Zachary holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm) from the University of Calabar in Cross River State, Nigeria.
